Why Shadow Work Is Important
Shadow work is the process of exploring the hidden or repressed parts of your unconscious mind to understand and integrate them, leading to personal growth, self-awareness, and better self-acceptance. Coined by psychoanalyst Carl Jung, the "shadow self" includes traumas, fears, negative emotions, and even undeveloped potential that we try to disown. By bringing these hidden aspects into conscious awareness through practices like journaling or therapy, individuals can identify and regulate emotional reactions, improve relationships, and heal.
We believe that part of shadow work can be done on our meditation and yoga mats. Through the process of moving our bodies, getting quiet/still, opening our inner ears, we allow our emotions, stories and fears the space/time to express, bringing them to the surface of our awareness so we can process them.
We'll be reading Aghora: Left Hand of God by Robert Svoboda, using excerpts from the book for daily inspirations and journaling prompts.
